Student Measures Analysis ReporT (SMART)
SMART is our new ad hoc reporting tool without the limitations of PowerBI. It is a new and improved version the current Student Roster reports that can be found under the Foundations navigation tab. SMART includes both Student and Staff Reports. It has quick filters to create student lists with the measures, or data columns, of your choosing. Student groups you’ve created in our K12 Analytics platform is also viewable and selectable from within SMART.
Note: SMART is a new and improved reporting tool and will be replacing Student Master Roster (SMR). Both will be available for the 24-25 academic year, and SMR will be phased out summer 2025.
SMART - Key Features
The chart below shows the key differences between the new SMART module and the old Student Master Roster that will be phased out summer of 2025.
Navigating to SMART
From the top navigation menu in K12 Analytics, click on SMART link found next to the District Snapshot located at the end to open it in a new browser tab.

Access role can be updated by your district’s DataZone Leads and their designees via the User Management app.

|
No access to quick filters | Access to quick filters for Foster Youth, Homeless, Migrant, Census Day, and Unduplicated Student Count |
Creating Reports
To get started on creating a report, click on the + Create New Report button below Student Reports, Staff Reports or Early Warning Reports. Under each heading of Reports, users will see their own saved reports under My Reports. If reports created by other users were shared with them, those reports are viewable under Shared With Me or Shared With Groups. View the screenshot below for a description of the different features and functionality found within SMART.
Student Report
The Student Report allows users to generate reports at the student level using quick filters with selections of measures. Student groups available in the K12 Analytics app are also accessible from SMART. By default, all students are initially displayed and the use of filters allow users to narrow down the student list. After generating a report, users can save the report for future viewing. These reports note the filters users have selected and allow for dynamic reporting. Users can also download their reports as an Excel spreadsheet. Clicking on linked individual student IDs will open those students' profiles in another browser tab for more granular investigations.
Staff Report
The Staff Report functions similarly to Student Reports while allowing users to filter by teacher or course using the Staff & Courses selection next to the Measures selection. Refer to the screenshots below for a description of features and functionality.
Clicking on the selection for Staff & Courses or Measures will display a pop up window. Once you have checked what to filter or include in your report, click on the Submit button near the bottom of the pop up to generate the report.
Early Warning Report
The goal of the Early Warning Report is to identify students most at risk of dropping out or not completing high school on time. Visit our Early Warning Definitions & Calculations page to learn about this report and the available Measures specific to Early Warning.
Available Measures for Staff/Student Reports
Data categories in the measures selection include:
Student demographics
Attendance

Click on the download button to export the report to an excel spreadsheet to your computer. Use the save button to save the filters and name the report so you can revisit it again in the future or share the report with colleagues.
